HAZE Licence Agreement

This agreement applies when you download, install or use the HAZE desktop app. How you buy a licence, pay for it and get a refund is in the Terms of Use.

About this agreement

When we say “Milklamp”, “we”, “our” or “us”, we mean Milklamp, the trading name of an independent developer who makes HAZE. You can reach us at [contact email to come].

When we say “HAZE” or “the app”, we mean the HAZE desktop app, its updates, and the content that ships with it. This agreement is between you and Milklamp. By installing or using HAZE you agree to it. If you don’t agree, don’t install or use it.

Nothing in this agreement takes away your rights as a consumer under mandatory law. This agreement contains a limitation of our liability.

Your licence

  1. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use HAZE on up to three Windows computers at a time that you own or control, for your own personal or work purposes.
  2. A licence you bought once, or one that renting has paid off, is a lifetime licence: it does not expire, and it includes the updates we release for HAZE.
  3. A licence you are renting works while its payments are up to date. If they stop, it pauses until you resume, and HAZE won’t open under it in the meantime. Your work stays on your computer and readable on disk throughout.
  4. HAZE checks its licence with us when it is activated and from time to time after. A computer that can’t reach us keeps working for a reasonable time before it needs to check again.
  5. HAZE is licensed, not sold. We and our licensors keep all rights not expressly granted here, including all intellectual property in the app, its name, its mark, its characters and its art.

What you may not do

Unless the law allows it despite this agreement, you may not:

Your work is yours

  1. We claim no rights in what you create, import or store with HAZE. It stays yours.
  2. HAZE stores your work on your computer. We don’t have a copy, so we cannot restore it if it is lost, deleted or damaged. Use the export and automatic backup features, and keep a copy on another disk.
  3. You are responsible for having the rights to the material you bring into HAZE and to anything you send to outside services through it.

AI features and companions

  1. Conversation with the companions, and other AI features, are optional. They work through an AI provider you choose and connect yourself. Your use of that provider is governed by your agreement with it, including its charges, limits and data practices. We are not party to it, and you pay any charges it makes.
  2. AI output can be wrong, incomplete, out of date or inappropriate. It is not professional advice, including medical, legal, financial or safety advice. Check it before you rely on it.
  3. North, Ryuron and the other companions are fictional characters, not people. They are not a substitute for professional care or for emergency services.
  4. With tools turned on, a companion can change your work in HAZE. Changes are listed in her action log, and most can be undone there. Some actions cannot be undone, including anything sent or done outside HAZE, computer use, writes through connections, and commands run in Full access mode.
  5. You decide which modes, permissions and connections to allow, including Full access, computer use, automations and schedules. You are responsible for the actions you approve or set to run. Run budgets and other limits are safeguards, not guarantees.

Other services and components

  1. Gmail, Spotify, Telegram, MCP programs, web services and other things you connect are provided by others under their own terms. We are not responsible for them, and a feature that depends on one may stop working if that service changes.
  2. HAZE includes open-source software, fonts, music, public-domain books and other third-party material. Each is provided under its own licence, which the app lists. Where those licences grant you rights that this agreement does not, those licences apply to those components.

Updates and support

We may release updates that add, change or remove features. We are not required to provide support or any particular feature, except where the law or the Terms of Use say otherwise.

Ending the licence

You can stop using HAZE at any time by uninstalling it. Your licence ends if you break this agreement, if the purchase that gave it is refunded, or if you delete your account. In every case, the work on your computer stays yours and you can keep your exports. The sections on ownership, your work, warranties, liability and governing law continue to apply after the licence ends.

No warranty

To the extent the law allows, HAZE is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability and non-infringement. We work hard to make HAZE reliable, but we don’t promise that it will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that it will meet your requirements.

Liability

Nothing in this agreement limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for intentional acts or gross negligence, or any rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law.

Governing law

This agreement is governed by the laws of Taiwan (Republic of China). The Taiwan Taipei District Court is the court of first instance for any dispute, unless mandatory law gives you the right to bring a claim somewhere else.

Changes and questions

We may update this agreement for future versions of HAZE. When we do, we will refresh the date at the top of this page, and the app will show the new version before it applies.
