Terms of Use

Thank you for visiting. These terms cover this website, your HAZE account, and buying a licence for HAZE. The desktop app itself has its own licence agreement.

Who we are

When we say “Milklamp”, “we”, “our” or “us”, we mean Milklamp, the trading name of an independent developer who makes HAZE. You can reach us at [contact email to come].

When we say “you”, we mean anyone who visits the site, uses the examples, makes an account or buys HAZE. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.

We may update these terms. When we make a significant change we will refresh the date at the top of this page, and tell account holders by email once email delivery is connected. Using the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. A change never takes away a licence you have already paid for. If we don’t enforce a right or a provision at some point, that does not mean we have given it up. These terms contain a limitation of our liability.

What the site is

The site describes HAZE, a local-first workspace for Windows, and is where you make an account, buy a licence, download the app and manage your devices. Prices are on the Pricing page.

Pictures and recordings show the app as it is being built. Features can change between versions, and the guide describes the desktop app, not these web pages.

Your account

  1. An account is for one person. You need one to buy HAZE and to download it. HAZE is sold to individuals, not to companies or organisations.
  2. Make your account with an email address you own, and keep its details correct. To buy, you must be old enough to make a binding contract where you live, or have a parent or guardian’s permission.
  3. Keep your password private and don’t share your account. You are responsible for what happens in it. If you think someone else has got in, change your password from your dashboard; that signs out every other session.
  4. You can download a copy of your account data, or delete the account, from your dashboard at any time. While you are renting, cancel your payments first. Deleting the account deletes its licence: a lifetime licence cannot be restored afterwards.
  5. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. If we close one that has paid for a licence without a serious breach, we refund what you paid for the part you can no longer use.

Buying HAZE

Our order process is run by our online reseller, Paddle.com. Paddle is the merchant of record for all our orders: it takes the payment, charges any sales tax or VAT, issues the invoice and handles customer service inquiries about payment and returns. Your purchase is also covered by Paddle’s buyer terms. We never see your card or bank details.

Prices are in US dollars. Paddle shows the final price, including any tax for your country, before you pay. HAZE can be bought in two ways:

  1. Buy once. One payment gives you a lifetime licence for HAZE.
  2. Rent to own. A monthly payment gives you the use of HAZE while it is paid. Each payment counts toward ownership. When what you have paid reaches $50, the payments stop by themselves and your licence becomes a lifetime licence. The dashboard shows how far you have come.

Renting to own

  1. Each monthly payment counts at its US dollar price toward ownership, whatever currency Paddle charged it in.
  2. Renting adds up to more than buying once: that is the cost of spreading the payments out. There is no buy-out, and payments made while renting don’t count toward the one-time price.
  3. If you cancel, or a payment fails and is not fixed, your licence is paused. HAZE stops opening under it, but your work stays on your computer and the payments you have made are kept. Resume, and the licence works again with your progress intact.
  4. We may change prices for new purchases. A change never raises a monthly price you are already paying without notice to you first, and never changes payments already made.

Refunds

You can ask for a full refund within 14 days of any payment, for any reason: from Paddle using the link in its receipt email, or by writing to us. Paddle processes the refund to the way you paid.

A refunded one-time purchase ends the lifetime licence it gave. A refunded monthly payment no longer counts toward ownership. Nothing here limits refunds that the law where you live gives you beyond these.

Licences and devices

  1. A licence covers up to three Windows computers at a time. The first time HAZE opens on a computer, it activates with your licence key; you can see each computer and deactivate it from your dashboard to free its place.
  2. Your licence key is for your own computers. Don’t share or publish it. We may deactivate devices, or replace a key, that is being shared.
  3. How you may use the app is set out in the licence agreement.

The interactive examples

The examples open the real HAZE tools with sample work, inside your browser, on a separate address. They are a demonstration with a narrower set of operations, not the desktop app.

What you make in them stays in your browser’s storage for that address. We don’t receive it and can’t back it up or recover it. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it. Please don’t put anything there that you need to keep or that is confidential.

Use restrictions

Please don’t use the site, your account or the examples to:

We may block access, or suspend an account, when we believe these restrictions are being broken.

Ownership

  1. HAZE, Milklamp, the HAZE mark, North, Ryuron and the other characters, their artwork, the site’s writing, design, pictures and recordings belong to us or to the people who license them to us. Using the site or buying a licence gives you no ownership of any of it.
  2. You may link to the site and quote short passages with a link back. Please ask before using the name, the mark or the characters anywhere else.
  3. The site’s fonts are used under the SIL Open Font License; their licence files are served alongside them.

Copyright complaints

If you believe something on the site infringes your copyright, write to us at [contact email to come]. Please include the work you own, where it appears on the site, your contact details, and a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised and that your notice is accurate. We will look into it and remove the material where that is appropriate.

Other sites and services

The site links to other websites, is served by a hosting provider, and uses Paddle for checkout. We are not responsible for other websites, their content or their policies.

No warranty

The site, your account and the examples are provided “as is” and “as available”. We work to keep them correct and running, but we don’t promise they will be uninterrupted, error-free or suited to any particular purpose.

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for intentional acts or gross negligence, or any rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Taiwan (Republic of China). The Taiwan Taipei District Court is the court of first instance for any dispute, unless mandatory law gives you the right to bring a claim somewhere else.

Questions

If you have a question about these terms, write to us at [contact email to come].
